2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser

The FJ Cruiser is the one modern Toyota built like the old ones: body-on-frame, solid rear axle, a 4.0L V6 that will run past 250,000 miles if you feed it oil, and a part-time 4WD system meant for actual snow and mud rather than a badge on the tailgate. Toyota only built them from 2007 to 2014, and clean ones don’t sit long — they hold value better than almost anything else on a used lot.

This one has 130,000 miles on it, which is barely broken in for a 1GR-FE. The paint is straight and the trim is all there: factory roof rack, side steps, the rear-mounted full-size spare under its hard cover, and the dash-top gauge pod with the inclinometer and compass. Inside it’s the FJ’s own brand of practical — water-resistant seat fabric and rubber floors, so it cleans out with a hose instead of a shampooer. The rear half-doors open backward for easy loading, and the roof rack is ready for whatever won’t fit inside.
